Taiwan has officially established its first state-run cross-border recruitment center in the Philippines to streamline the hiring process and protect Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from high placement and broker fees. Under this newly implemented system, Taiwanese employers are required to shoulder key pre-employment expenses, including round-trip airfare, medical exams, and visa fees.
To further strengthen bilateral ties and expand operations into the central logistics hub of the country, Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry also announced plans to open a second representative office in Cebu City. This office will support regional business, tourism, and the growing community of over 200,000 Filipino workers currently living in Taiwan.
While these government-to-government hiring tracks continue to expand, migrant advocacy groups like Migrante Taiwan remain active, addressing workplace issues such as strict contract terms and housing rules. To support distressed workers, the continues to provide comprehensive welfare and legal aid through its Migrant Workers Offices (MWOs) in Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung.
